OOTD: On My 5th Year as Gelleesh

I have been blogging even way before Gelleesh came out. Although I initially and usually just talk about teen angst and how the world was against me, it’s still a blog. And yep, those blogs still exist because I totally forgot my passwords to them. I will not give you a link but if you’re crazy enough, you can Google them and I’ll let you laugh about how emo I was before.

To tell you quite frankly, I didn’t know blogging will be this big in the Philippines when I started out Gelleesh. The plan was just to have a place where I can dump my makeup reviews to promote my then existing online makeup shop. I started with Weebly until it got discovered by other bloggers, suggested I transfer to Blogger and a few months after, I finally bought GELLEESH.COM.

Romper: Forever 21 | Cardigan: Cotton On | FlipFlops: Havainas

I started out Gelleesh with everyday posts until the everyday became three times a week to two times a week, to once a week, to twice every month… And then eventually posting just when I wanted to post. There was a time when it became too stressful and I told myself, “I blog because it’s how I release stress. Why the hell am I stressing over this now?” And then a few months back, it hit me. I blog not just because it helps me release stress. I blog because I have a purpose before (well after the online makeup shop, I found a new purpose). I blog because I want to empower women that they can be whatever they want to be and that they can do whatever they want to do as long as they believe in their selves.

I had “haters” (as some people would call them). There were people who think I was too fat to blog about fashion, too baduy to be showing my OOTDs, too ugly to be showing FOTDs, and that my skin was too dirty to be blogging about makeup and skin care. Kudos to me for never stopping just because I wasn’t everybody’s cup of tea.

My blogging journey was not that of someone who already knows what she’s doing. I had bad brow days, too flashy eyeshadow moments, and too-edgy-for-my-own-good OOTD posts. But I never stopped. And so, here I am.

I am trying to go back to my old mission – to review local inexpensive makeup and skin care products. After getting a big promotion a year ago, I started buying not-so-affordable makeup hence some of my old readers may not be able to relate anymore.

I would also still blog about body love and acceptance. I gained weight but I’m happier and I also eat healthier (with the occasional weekend cheat days of course… Pizza and burgers!).

I am back to regularly blogging but only once a week. If you’d want me to blog more often, I’d love to hear it straight from you so that I know I’m not the only one enjoying my blog. What else do you want to see here in my blog? Do you want help with something I might be an “expert” at? I remember someone asking me about budgeting and maybe I’m not a big expert with regard to that but I have my techniques and I’d be glad to share them with you. Just shoot me an email anytime or leave a comment. I’d love to know what you guys think.

Again, happy to be blogging with you, for you, and for my own sanity for five years now! Happy Blogversary, to my blog - Gelleesh.

  2. Congrats on your 5th year in blogging! I know how hard it is to keep the blog alive. I've experienced the same thing—blogging everyday and then less and less per week/month. I also felt that blogging was a stress-reliever then slowly becoming the source of it. Now I just blog when I can and I don't even mind if I do not go to events anymore. I'm just happy I get to share my beauty discoveries with those who still reads the Peachy Pink Sisters. Haha! Anyway, I'm happy that you're still blogging and that you keep inspiring your readers like me. :)

More power to you and Gelleesh.com! Looking forward to reading more of your posts! :)

  12. Happy Blogiversary, girlie! I think it's awesome that you kept riding the waves in spite of the negativity others tried to throw your way! You know, when people saw mean and hurtful comments, it's only a reflection of how they feel about themselves. Keep up the wonderful work, I look forward to more content from you and you look absolutely gorgeous in this outfit, that romper is too cute!

  15. Congrats dear! I was close to closing my blog a couple of times too... and then also kept it going beacuse in the end I just love blogging, sharing my outfits, my reviews, my thoughts. Even if noone would read it, I would just keep it going because its simply fun. I think the best thing you can do is to blog about the things that are inspiring you, maybe some readers will leave but then others will come. The best blogposts are always those that excite you personally the most :)
And I will keep you updated about our trip to the Philipines and cannot wait to meet you! Do you have any suggestions for a good but not super expensive family friendly hotel close to the airport? Will will arrive at night in Manila and will continue to Boracay the next morning so it would be great if it is very close to the airport. I found a few online but maybe you have some local advice :)!?
    Have a great weekend!

  19. WOW, first, congrats on reaching 5 years on this blog, and for staying more than that in the blogosphere! I have been blogging for around 7 years already pero palipat-lipt ako. I didn't even have a blog that reached for 2 years! Haha

You shouldn't stress yourself on blogging, take it easy. I think once or twice a week is enough. :) Just don't keep us waiting for updates hahaha also, I hope you post more OOTDs since that's what you love doing, and also personal posts because I like to know more about you :)

  20. Congratulations on this milestone! We will all have haters. But what sets us apart from them is that we keep on doing what we love to do despite the hate we get. Why should we care about all their negativity? We should focus on the things that we love and excel in it.

I am proud to witness your blog grow through the five years you have been blogging and I wish you more success. You truly deserve all of them! :)
