Travel Diary: Gelleesh Goes to Baler

As all of you may have known, I went to Baler, Aurora this weekend and I did enjoy my trip. Well, this first post is to tell you how I got to Baler and preparations I have made. It wasn't an easy trip to organize since this would honestly be my first time to go out of town without the whole family. Of course, work travels aren't counted because they usually already have the whole trip planned for you; so this is the official one.

After our impulsive FAIL trip going to Morong, Bataan, I've decided to plan this trip well. I contacted bloggers and everyone I know who could help. First, I searched for a place to stay. I tried calling some inns; but unfortunately, almost everything's occupied except for an electric fanned room; which will never be part of the option. But then I saw this blog post about Pacific Waves Inn and the room looks decent plus it's beach front so I decided to give 'em a call and I secured a room! FINALLY! They've got really inexpensive rates, that I can assure you.

After my confirmation from Pacific Waves Inn and the initial deposit via China Bank, I contacted Genesis Bus to ask for reservations regarding going to Baler and back to Manila. They do have a regular air conditioned bus trip going to Baler and I prefer it, initially, because it's way cheaper. I mean, it's only P450. I called and asked for a reservation; but unfortunately, regular bus trips like this doesn't accept reservation. You've just got to go there early to get seats. But upon checking the trip going back to Manila, the regular air conditioned bus's last trip back to Manila is at 10:00 AM and check out from Pacific Wave is until 12:00nn. Sucks. So, we decided to reserve some seats for the Joybus (still from Genesis) instead since their last trip is at 3:00 PM. However, it'll be more expensive. It costs P690/head.

I have a tip for you guys who wants to ride a Joybus. Reserve seats early. When we arrived to Baler, we contracted a tricycle, which costs PhP1,000 (and I think it was worth it. I'll tell you why in my next Baler posts) and headed first to the Joybus terminal. When we arrived there, there is a group of friends there who are asking for Joybus seats for the trip the next day. They needed to get a trip back to Manila on Sunday because one of 'em still has to go to work; but unfortunately, everything was full and they were able to get him only the 3:00 AM trip. When it was my time, I'm glad I called Joybus Baler a week before. We have already secured seats for the 3:00 PM trip going back to Manila and I'd just to pay once I get to Baler. Easy for us!

Kuya Joseph (our tour/tricycle driver) revised our itinerary and added a couple more places he said we need to see. We didn't complain. He's the local here, who are we to object if he's gonna show us more wonders of Baler? He, then, dropped us to Pacific Waves Inn and we were already allowed to go in our room and leave our things there even though we arrived a few minutes past 10 and the regular check-in time was 2:00 PM. They're really nice and understanding of the circumstances. Plus, they didn't ask for any additional fee.

So after dropping off our things at Pacific Waves Inn, we headed to our first destination...
