My Daily Skin Care Routine

So I have been asked a lot about the products I use on my face or what my skin care routine is since there has really been a significant change from how my skin looked like before to how seemingly (because nothing natural should really be) flawless it is now. Truth be told, I’ve paid more attention now to skin care since I’ve also been more experimental on the products I use. My fiancé would also help me in that aspect since he graduated with a degree in Chemistry so he checks the ingredients of the products I use. A chemist and a beauty junkie… Good combination, right?

During my early blogging years when I was still a very clueless young girl. I was trying on a lot of makeup but I didn't pay much attention on knowing my skin type and checking which skin care products would jive well with my skin.

Morning Routine:

Back when I was just starting with my love for makeup, I would go directly into applying foundation right after my bath; until I’ve realized the importance of cleansing and moisturizing. During the day, I wash my face with the Olay Cream Cleanser two to three times a week and the Snoe It’s Oat-K! It’s Alright! Foaming Cleansing Oil. After washing my face, I proceed to applying the Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Anti- Ageing Day Moisturizer then a primer (currently using: Banila Co. Prime Primer Classic) before putting my makeup on.

Night Routine:

The first thing I do is to use the Giggles Baby Wipes to remove my makeup then the Physiogel Daily Moisture Therapy Dermo-Cleanser as a dry cleanser to help remove the excess makeup still left on my face. I know it works perfectly well even without rinsing but I just developed the habit of rinsing still so… I still rinse it off. LOL.  After that, I use the Olay Natural White Hydrating Glow Toner and then the Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Anti- Ageing Night Cream as my night moisturizer. Oh and a generous swipe of any non-tinted lip balm I have for my lips. And, btw, two times a week I also use the Cure Natural Aqua Gel after cleansing to help exfoliate my skin. You might want to try exfoliating once or twice a week too if you’re an urban girl like me who likes wearing makeup everyday. I am also currently on the lookout for a good and not-so-expensive eye cream so if you have any recommendations, just shoot it at the comments section below. Oh and I’m not endorsing Olay! My skin just reacts well to it so I’m sticking with it until I find something that I’m willing to risk trying.

Personal Skin Care Tips I Learned Through My Beauty Journey:

A no-makeup selfie

You do not need a complicated skin care routine. Compared to other beauty junkies I know, my skin care routine isn’t that much. Do whatever works for you and just add products as needed. This tip is not just for your skin but also for your pocket.

Rest your face every once in a while. Give your face its well-deserved beauty rest. Skip a day or two with your makeup and give time for your pores to breathe. And never ever forget to remove your makeup at the end of the day. It’s not worth being lazy for.

It pays to know what your skin type is. To be able to find the best product for your skin, it is best to know what your skin type is and find what type of product works well for that skin type. Martha of The Beauty Junkee has a really helpful post that will guide you on finding the right moisturizer for your skin type. Remember that what works for me might not always work on you so don’t just rely on reviews or recommendations from friends… Know your own skin and research about what will work for it.

It pays to check the ingredients of the product you want to try. I used to not care; but after I met my chemist major fiancé, I learned that I should never take ingredients for granted. When we shop, he tells me what component of a certain products gives off this and that certain effect, why it’s effective, why it’s BS, why I might have a breakout, and why it might not work. So before swiping your card at your nearest beauty shop, it doesn’t hurt to take out your phone and Google some that you do know about or do your research first before heading out. Better, right?

So, I guess that’s all. If you have other beauty-related questions, go ahead and ask them at the comments section below or you can email me at gellieabogado@gelleesh.com. Don’t worry, I don’t bite… Hard. LOL.

Update: A few days ago, my fiancé gave me the complete line of The Body Shop Oils for Life and The Body Shop Vitamine E Eyes Cube so I’m currently and slowly incorporating them in my skin care routine. No worries though because the products I’ve shared above are the ones responsible for the big change in my skin. ;)

  1. I love Olay products. I remember trying one for the first time and applying it over my chin with a zit. When I woke up, the pimple was gone. :)

  10. Your skin definitely looks like it's glowing! I never paid much attention to skin care until about a year ago. Now I even avoid the sun at all costs haha. Your routine seems really nice and simple and a lot of these products I haven't tried before. I know what you mean by being younger and just slapping some foundation on after your shower. Now the thought of it makes me cringe! If you're looking for a good and decently priced eye cream, you should try Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Eye Cream. I think it's around $35, which can still seem a bit pricey, but the two I have now are around $60, so I feel like $35 is in between the high end stuff and the drugstore stuff. That one definitely works wonders!! Give it a shot if you can. :)

  11. I swear by Olay Total Effect and it was the only moisturizer that I used throughout my 20s until my early 30s and I swear it's the reason why I have great skin.

  14. You do have gorgeous skin! I love the Banila Co primer! One of my favorite products ever! Try the matte (green) one next time. I swear by it! I tried Giggles baby wipes to remove my makeup once and it broke me out! I don't know why. It was supposed to be hypoallergenic and good for sensitive skin because it is meant for babies. I love how simple and easy your skincare routine is. As they say, the less products you put on your face the less risk of having a breakout. :)

  15. Wow! Your skin is gorgeous! My husband hates the smells of moisturizers at night, but I make sure I moisturizer during the day. He also studied chemistry, but I'm not sure he could tell me about lotion ingredients - lol! I'll have to google, I suppose. XO

  17. I could not agree more to your trips and tricks! I do it the same way; less is more and a make up break every once in a while is so important! I usually have one day during the week where I am not wearing anything at all.
By the way, are we still going to see each other on Ocober 23 in Manila :)???
