Almost all millennials dream of having their own business.
That’s not unique anymore. But the game changer here is, what kind of
enterprise will you start and can you, realistically, sustain it?
I’ve had two businesses that I wasn’t able to continue. One was
an online makeup shop I started with a close friend of mine, while the other
one is an online e-commerce site where I buy and sell locally-made products.
The latter was a great idea but the problem was that I was doing it on my own
since it was a personal passion project; so when things got rough at work, I
had to focus on what brings me more income. I won’t say that they have been
“failures” because I’ve learned a lot from them. I’ve certainly grown.
#TeamElla's first meeting |
And now, I started a new business, Ella Naturals, with some of my friends
who has their own field of specialization so we were able to help each other
out where the other lack. We have someone who specializes in the paper works
and proposals, one who is more of an expert in fund management and very organized,
one who is an auditor and a CPA to help us out with the accounting side. What
do I do? Well… I manage marketing, of course. I’m not saying that we’ve got it
all figured out but we’re off to a good start, at least. Things aren’t perfect
and we still encounter A LOT of problems and disagreements along the way. And
that’s why meeting other enterprising millennials like us and belonging in a
community focusing on motivating young entrepreneurs would be a good place for
us to be at.
When I was invited to the launch of Sparkup.PH, I was enthused with the idea of a
community and space on the web focused on equipping young entrepreneurs, like
my team, on how we can survive the business world. And yep, SparkUp is under Business World. Teehee!
According to Philippine Star Media Group (which Business
World is a part of) Executive Vice President, Lucien C. Dy Tioco, “SparkUp will prove to be a useful platform
for business-minded millennials and centennials because it will not only serve
as a source of business knowledge, but also a community where they can share
ideas and inspire each other to turn business concepts into reality.”
So they’ve also set daily topics such as:
#MoneyMonday – Tips
on money management, with the latest news on saving, investing, and spending;
#TrendingTuesday
– Insights on the latest trends and their impact on entrepreneurs and
consumers;
#WorkingWednesday
– Workplace stories and tips for the Gen Y and Gen Z's work ethics and career outlooks;
#TakeoverThursday
– An insider tour of a day in the life of the members of the Sparkommunity;
#FreshFriday –
Stories on the lighter side of business.
They also have some SparkUp terminologies you might want to
familiarize yourself with:
Sparkfluencers –
Young and trending business influencers who have made it to the top. They will
write columns and speak live in events to foster learning and inspiration.
Sparktionary –
This is a built-in dictionary providing digestible definitions through
interactive executions readily available for every reader.
Sparkommunity – What
SparkUp calls its readers, the future and current influencers, movers, and
shakers in the business community.
It kind of feels like destiny that SparkUp sprouted just in
the nick of time when I also just started my own business. Aside from having
equally awesome and motivated business partners, I’m glad to finally belong in
a community empowering us, the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.

ReplyDeleteThank you Britney 😊
DeleteYay! So proud of you! It takes a lot of really focus on your own business. I don't think your others were failures. I think people fail by never trying. You tried and you learned, and that's all that matters. I am really excited to follow your journey with your new biz. Also, this Spark thing sounds so neat! I especially love their hashtag topics. That's such a great way to invite discussion every week, and learn from other people's stories. Good luck with it all! We're going to run the world soon, just wait. ;)
