Because We Want to Stand Out in a Good Way

Christmas season maybe over but it doesn’t mean the events and parties stop there!  Now for those of you girls, like me, who needs to buy more clothes especially dresses we super need to be a savvy shopper to avoid that awkward same dress scenario. We dress up to stand out and not to literally blend in, right? So it is a must to be always ready before we set sail to the fashion battles this 2013!

But if you’re not yet decided on a midi or maxi, or whether velvet or lace is your trend of choice, here are some handy tips on how best to dress to flatter your body shape:

Hour glass
If your shoulders and hips are about the same width and your waist goes in, you’re an hourglass. For those lucky enough to have an hourglass figure, an evening gown with a classic cut will suit you. Look for something that nips in at the waist to emphasize your curves and pick a relatively low neckline to balance out your silhouette.

Boyish
If your figure is straight up and down with no curves, your body shape is boyish. To create the illusion of curves, choose this season’s must-have: a peplum dress. This flattering shape will do wonders by adding volume to your hips.
Pear
If your hips are wider than your shoulders, your body type is pear. To take the focus away from your hips, choose a dress which gently skims this area, such as a maxi or empire line. Look for a style with detail around the neck to draw the eye upwards.
Top heavy
If your shoulders are wider than your hips, your body type is top heavy. To help slim down your top half, opt for a scoop or v-neck, and make sure any detail on the dress is around the bottom. If you fancy making a statement in a strapless dress, try teaming with a simple bolero jacket or shrug, and keep away those winter chills, too!
Apple
If you don’t have much definition around your waist, your body type is apple. To give the impression of a more defined waist, choose a structured dress that’s nipped in at the waist and add a chunky belt for extra emphasis.
