Taking My Makeup Off For A Week

"Put your makeup on, get your nails done, curl your hair, run the extra mile, keep it slim so they like you? Get your sexy on, don't be shy girl. Take it off. This is what you want, to belong, so they like you. Do you like you?"

This week I went on a makeup fast upon hearing the song from Colbie Caillat, Try, as a social experiment of some sort regarding how people will react on my no-makeup face. I have been playing this song on loop for the past few days and I love how it encourages people to be themselves and not try to impress other people, but instead, strive to being a better version of yourself based on how you perceive being "better" to be and not as how society dictates it. In short, just be yourself.

Being a beauty blogger and loving makeup

Because this is how most people will define being beautiful or being pretty. (With makeup on)
Makeup, for me, is an art. It is also my way of improving some of the features of my face and not change them. There would be times when I want my lips to look more fierce, or subtle or just natural. There would be instances when I want to look like a rockstar or a doll or just a normal neutral look. It, actually, depends on my mood. Although, I must admit, that I came to the point that I cannot leave the house without makeup and it, somehow, is against what I firmly believe in and that is acceptance. My love for makeup, suddenly, became a need because I have gotten so used to how people love my made up look and I just can't let people see how imperfect my bare face is.

Listening to the song reminded me of what this blog is all about and why I started this, in the first place. Makeup is an art and something I love doing; but above all else, I should always be reminded that my bare face is beautiful as it is and that I need not to be ashamed of it. I need to accept, not just my body shape, but also my bare face. Acceptance should be on an overall perspective and not just by bits and pieces.

And what did people think of my no-makeup face?

I was paranoid but then I realized that there's nothing to be paranoid about. Although a few asked me if I was not feeling well because I look pale, that's just it. Someone told me: "you look younger!" and, you all know I love keeping my brows thick but someone told me, "I love your brows! You changed the shape?" I didn't change my brow shape, I just didn't apply anything on my brows. Some people will, initially, find it a bit weird to see me without makeup but there would still be some who appreciates you for who you are.

A reminder... No one is perfect. Whether you have your makeup on or not, one or two people will still see an imperfection in you. That is why I keep telling you to always strive to becoming better, not for other people, but for your own self. Do not let society dictate you how you should look and what you should do to your body... It's yours. Claim it, take care of it and love it.

And what did I think about the whole no-makeup week thing?

And these are two selfie shots I took without any makeup on.
It has its advantages both physically and emotionally. It did help me save time and gave me more sleep because I need not to wake up early just to put my makeup on. It also helped my skin have its well-deserved rest from all the makeup that I have been putting on it. It has, also, pushed me to being brave and accepting myself more for what I have to offer and who I really am. I am and you are beautiful no matter what the society and the media tell us.

Being beautiful is always subjective and dependent on how one looks at it... So before you destroy the beauty you already have, know that your beauty is measured by how much you appreciate and accept yourself. You don't need the approval and acceptance of other people. You need the approval and acceptance of yourself, above all else.

  2. True ka dyan sis, pag hindi mag-me-makeup eh hindi ko rin kailangan gumising ng maaga. I actually wake up before 5 am so I have enough time to cook breakfast, prepare my son for school, and do my makeup, haha! And yes, you are pretty even without makeup. :)

  3. Im hapoy to say that makeup for me is more of a leisurely hobby than something i feel like i need to have. I think on a regular day i can have a musthave ,itd be brows. Kahit light lang, solely because di pantay kilay ko haha other than that feeling ko maganda na ko enough hahaha and isnt that what colbie asks? Do you like you? Hehe

Ps. Your natural brows are super duper uper layo to your makeup brows :)

  4. I like my skin to breathe from time to time as well, so I can go a week without BASE makeup. But sorry, I need my eyebrow products. Haha :)

  6. you indeed look younger without makeup, especially on that last photo (right). Lately, I also minimized the amount of makeup I pile up on my face. But probably I'll get back to putting lots of makeup again cos I want to finish all my unused products once and for all! haha :)

  7. Not so sure how I feel about the song. It's catchy though.

Anyway, I've lived almost all my life barefaced, it's more a challenge for me to wake up early and wear makeup. I wish I can. It takes discipline ie waking up early. :D

  9. Ako naman I don't mind waking up to wear makeup. Routine na talaga sakin. I only put makeup for around 20 minutes (with skincare na yun) so it's not much of a hassle. But yea, it's good to let your skin breathe for time to time. And to hell with what society and the media say about what beautiful is, we're all beautiful. Every one of us has to believe it first, unfortunately, many are still uncomfortable with themselves. :/

    1. True. A lot of women still need to be empowered and told na they are beautiful regardless :)

  10. Mukha kang fresh even with no makeup. I wish I could do this on a normal day, kaso I'd look tired pag walang makeup, lalo na sa office. Sanay na kasi. :)
