Trying Out Pyunkang Yul: Back to Basic

For quite some time, I’ve been too busy with work that I’ve taken skincare for granted. But to be honest, it’s not something I was too concerned about. I was taking pills at that time for my PCOS and one of the “side effects” of the pills on me? Never a single pimple even when I sleep with my makeup on. Gross, right? I know. Well now that I’ve lost 50 pounds and have shifted to contraceptive shots instead of pills (since my most recent vaginal ultrasound says I don’t have any signs of PCOS anymore), I need to go back to being conscious about my skin. It is, after all, what we wear every single day.

So when Pyunkang Yul sent over some skincare goodies for me to try, it has become my go signal to go back to taking care and pampering my skin. I’ve abused it lately. It needs some love now.

According to the website of Go Bloom & Glow (the official local distributor of Pyunkang Yul):

Pyunkang Yul is a cruelty-free brand developed by the renowned Pyunkang Oriental Medicine Clinic in South Korea, an institution well-known for treating atopic skin disorders. Rejecting the notion that a cosmetic product is simply another shopping item and believing that it is a means of protecting the skin, the brand opted to remove all unnecessary chemical substances from their products that are merely for texture or scent, utilizing only the minimum, most gentle and safe ingredients.

It is actually my first time to hear the brand so I was pretty excited. My thoughts?

Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner

Formulated to deliver nutrient-filled moisture to the skin, this gel-type Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner intensely hydrates and quickly absorbs into the skin. It contains 91.3% milk vecht root extract which has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and nutrient-boosting properties. It is free from fragrance, dyes, and irritants.”

Ingredients: Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Butylene Glycol, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Carbomer, Arginine

Price: Php 695.00 (via Go Bloom and Glow)

I have actually avoided using toners because they just made my skin dry since, technically, its initial purpose is to clear your skin of the gunk left even after cleansing. And I might also be using the wrong one. But toners are quite important to your skincare routine. You see, a toner is kind of like a prep for all the skincare products you’d be putting on your skin. Because even though cleansing will be removing the dirt an oil you can easily spot, the toner helps in making sure your face is clear and ready for the next food you’ll feed it.

Unlike the previous toners I’ve used, the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner has been mild and gentle to my skin. I’m prone to having dry skin if I use the wrong product, so it was essential for me to choose the right toner. And in this case, Pyunkang Yul has the right product for my dear skin. It keeps my skin still feeling moisturized and hydrated so I guess I’ll be sticking to this one during my “normal skin type” kind of days. Because, yes, I have different skincare routines depending on what my skin’s current condition is.

If you’re like me who doesn’t have much issues on your skin, this could be the right “maintenance” toner for you.

Pyunkang Yul Oil

Achieve that youthful and radiant skin with Pyunkang Yul Oil, a lightweight facial oil that provides excellent antioxidant protection. Infused with a powerful blend of plant-based oils, including jojoba seed, sunflower, geranium and rosemary, your skin would feel hydrated and revitalized after each use. This quick absorbing formula is not heavy or greasy at all, is free from parabens and mineral oils, non-comedogenic, non-acnegenic and 100% natural.

Ingredients: Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Geranium Maculatum Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Fruit Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil

Price: Php 1,200.00 (via Go Bloom and Glow)

Before using the Pyunkang Yul Oil, I was using avocado oil and it can be too greasy on my skin. It’s not even looking hydrated. Just greasy. That’s why the thing I like about the Pyunkang Yul Oil is it’s not too greasy and it’s very lightweight, but still does the job of keeping my skin hydrated. And yes, this is part of my “normal skin type” kit to help maintain the current glowing skin I have. And yes, let me call it glowing because I’m loving how my skin is just looking flawless even without makeup on. I use three drops of this after using the toner and I let my skin absorb it for a few minutes and then I’ll proceed to using my eye cream and the next Pyunkang Yul product in my stash.

Whether you have dry or oily skin, this oil will work on you. It does the job without that heavy and greasy feeling on your face.

Pyunkang Yul Nutrition Cream

Formulated with safe and gentle ingredients, this Pyunkang Yul Nutrition Cream delivers intense hydration that lasts all day long. Perfect for those with parched, rough and dull looking skin, it is a luxuriously thick and smooth moisturizer that glides on easily and melts into skin without feeling heavy or greasy. Pyunkang Yul Nutrition Cream prevents signs of aging, improves elasticity and boosts skin with youthful radiance.

Price: Php 1,440.00 (via Go Bloom and Glow)

Since I’ve been a bit lazy prior to receiving this skincare set, I opted to just use an aloe vera gel from hair to foot. I have no qualms with it, but upon trying out the Pyunkang Yul Nutrition Cream, I was reminded of why I used to carefully pick the products I’d be using. Its anti-aging properties is definitely a plus for me too since I vowed to start using anti-aging products when I reached 25. I really just got lazy recently and even though I’m sharing this to you, I’m not exactly proud of it.

It has a thick formulation too which is perfect as a night cream, but glad that it doesn’t feel greasy on the face. I use this after letting my skin absorb the Pyunkang Yul Oil. I actually love the morning after glow I got when I started using this product. I also gave this a try during my morning skincare routine. Although some people may not like using a moisturizer that has a thick formulation in the morning, I must admit that it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin at all. For thick and creamy moisturizers, you would usually feel that it’s warmer when you use it on the day; but not this one. So again, during my normal skin type kind of days, I would use this Pyunkang Yul Moisturizer during the morning and evening.

No makeup!
Even though this is just my first time hearing and experiencing the brand, I must say I’m pretty impressed at how well it jived with my skin. The packaging is very minimalist which I like, they don’t have any weird scent, and they’re very gentle on the skin. I didn’t have any breakouts, allergic reactions, nor any burning sensations even which you would usually feel if the product is too harsh on your skin.

And here's a makeup look! Isn't it better to do your makeup with a glowing skin?
Definitely recommending that you give this a try. And if you have other skincare issues like acne and the likes, you can check out their other products to see which would work for you. Click here!
