OOTD: That Good Kind of Change



You all know it hasn’t been an easy journey. And even up to now, I am constantly battling with my monsters – my insecurities and old bad habits. They kick in every once in a while, but my determination to finally make this a permanent good kind of change is far stronger.

First of all, I switched to being vegan. It was a slow transition. As most of you know, I have already given up on the bad eating habits – fast food, instant noodles, processed food (as much as possible), etc. And I make it a point to cook my own meals as frequent as I can so I know what goes into my food. The temptations are everywhere especially if you’re the only vegan in your barkada and even in your office. It’s also hard to explain to people that what I’m doing is healthy, I get enough protein, I can’t eat this and that, no eggs, no fish, no dairy, etc. But you’ll eventually get used to it and the people who matter will try to adjust for you too.



Second, from working out in a normal gym, I finally transitioned to a new workout – CrossFit. I was scared at first because I’ve heard stories of how some people would throw up after a WOD (Workout Of the Day), injuries are pretty normal, workouts are way tougher, etc. But I was really curious and so I searched for the nearest box and, hello CrossFit Cabalen.

I’ve been doing CrossFit for about two months now and what made me fall in love with it is the challenging workouts, the variation in the WOD, and most especially, the community. People will cheer on you, they’ll all root for you to do better everyday, and you will be constantly reminded to compete with yourself and not with other people. To be honest, it isn’t an easy workout, but you will be guided all throughout and you can scale down until you can finally do the recommended way on doing specific CrossFit moves or skills. Not only that, but I’ve also been doing lifting too and loving it so much. I’ve always wanted to try it, but I didn’t know how to start. And look at me 2 months after my first day doing CrossFit – 90lb. PR on cleans and jerks. Yey!

Through these new formed habits and changes in my life, I’ve become more confident and have gotten healthier too. I’ve shifted my goal to becoming stronger than merely losing weight. I’ve developed my discipline more and I’ve learned new things and met new amazing people who have been constantly inspiring me to push myself to becoming better.

Sometimes things can still be a bit overwhelming. Like what if I can’t keep this up in the long run? If you’ve been ultra health conscious like me and have been researching about how to be healthier, you know that our body would constantly fight back when we lose weight. If we don’t maintain the good habits we’ve developed, we would eventually bounce back to our old selves and, possibly, even worse. But I’m trying to stay positive. I’m constantly reminding myself of pushing for the right motivation and not just the shallow superficial ones. It’s easy to want to lose weight and there are tons of ways to do it fast. But if that is our only motivation to staying disciplined, what happens after?

I want to live longer, enjoy life better, and do bigger things. I want to hike, run, swim, lift heavier, compete as a CrossFit athlete, travel in all sorts of ways possible, and still be physically active even when I’m old and wrinkly.

So cheers to the beautiful changes and here’s to inspiring and motivating others to be the best version of themselves too. Life is beautiful, let’s experience it to the fullest.
